Clouds

Recently I was outside cleaning up the dog poop in the back yard when I notice the clouds had taken on a beautiful orangey glow.

It was partly from a rainstorm that had passed through the valley, and partly from the leftover smoke from the California wildfires. I sttod in awe of this show of colors, until it dawned on me to grab my camera and take a picture of it.

I fiddled with the camera to get the settings exactly as the cloud’s pastel display faded before my eyes. I got this picture off before it was gone completely, but it didn’t do the show justice:

I was pretty bummed that I had failed to capture the scene that had been right before my eyes just minutes earlier: the rich contrast of the blue, orange, and grey capped off with a brilliant, almost phosphorescent, white.

I was bummed until I looked closer and saw the stallion.

So this is the message I received: there is something amazing hidden in the details, slow down and take a look to find them.

And finish picking the poop up in the back yard.

  • Dear Mr. Dammit:

I read your ‘Kidnadopted’ piece in the American Drivel Review. Very funny, I must say! Yes I enjoyed immensely. So much written humor is of the lead-footed variety. Whereas you travel from absurdity to absurdity with seamless abandon.

I have a couple of light pieces in there myself.

I will scan your blog to see if the cited piece was an anomalous capture of the essence of humor or the tip of a larger sustained trend of systemic guffawery.

    take care

  • Not all the things I write are as humorous as ‘Kidnadopted,” but I do tend to go for the absurd. Currently I am writing a novel, which is absurd in itself.
I loved your pieces in “ADR,” and would like to see more.
